Middle School Conference

“On the Move”

For youth who have completed fifth, sixth, seventh, or eighth grade, and for their group leaders.

The 2011 Middle School Conference at Presbyterian College will…

  • meet you where you are while encouraging you to move beyond;
  • be a place where all God’s children are loved and accepted as they are – everyone will be encouraged to care for themselves as well as care for others;
  • recognize that God calls us to move into mission with all God’s children throughout the world. We will celebrate what makes us Presbyterian;
  • provide a safe space for your faith journey; a place to ask, listen, and learn, while understanding every road is different.
Key Leaders

Morgan Hay

  • Morgan Morse Hay, Tucker, GA, Keynote; Morgan Hay is the associate pastor of St. Andrews Presbyterian in Tucker, GA. She is a graduate of Columbia Theological Seminary. Morgan loves good mexican food and spending time with her family.

Derrick Weston

  • Derrick Weston, Springfield, OH, Preacher; Derrick is a native of Southwest PA who studied film at the University of Pittsburgh. He received his Masters of Divinity from San Francisco Theological Seminary and spent nearly ten years working for The Pittsburgh Project, an urban community development ministry on the city’s North side. He is currently serving as the solo pastor of Oakland Presbyterian church in Springfield, OH. Derrick is a very amateur bass player and briefly did a stint as a professional puppeteer, but he doesn’t like to talk about that.

Stuart Hill

  • Stuart Hill, Greensboro, NC, Music Leader; Stuart lives in Greensboro, NC, where he is the chorus teacher at Northern Guilford Middle School. He thinks middle schoolers are the best, and loves teaching/working with them. When he’s not teaching, he enjoys writing music, running, cooking, and watching marathons of “House” on television.

Davis and Julie Bailey

  • Davis and Julie Bailey, Memphis, TN; Recreation Leaders; Davis and Julie are Associate Pastors at Evergreen Presbyterian Church in Memphis, TN. Both former camp counselors and youth directors from Mississippi, these two love the energy and imagination that youth bring to the church. When not at church, Davis enjoys bike riding, reading, listening to and playing music, and playing with Julie. Julie enjoys painting, cooking, sitting on her front porch, and playing with Davis. Davis and Julie look forward to playing with you at the Middle School Conference 2011!

General Information for the Middle School Conference

Download a Middle School Conference Flyer

  • Eligibility: The Middle School Conference at Presbyterian College is designed for youth who have completed fifth, sixth, seventh, or eighth grade by summer 2011, and for their group leaders. All groups must include at least one adult for every six young people. Adults must be housed with their youth. Child care is not provided during this conference.
  • Location: The Middle School Conference will be held on the campus of Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC. We’ll be gathering each day in their beautiful Belk Auditorium and enjoying many of their facilities. Presbyterian College has reserved their air-conditioned dorm space (linens are not provided) and much of their campus for us. For this reason we prefer that no groups “commute” except from the local area.
  • Conference Schedule: Details will be included in a packet of information that group leaders will receive much closer to the conference. Registration will be Wednesday afternoon after 3 PM, and each day will include keynote, worship, recreation, singing, and many other activities. In small groups, young people and adults will explore the conference theme using a manual written especially for this particular conference. The last event will be a worship service at 9 AM following Sunday breakfast.
  • Opportunities for High School Students: You have an opportunity to participate in the Middle School Conference in a unique way – as a member of the Work Crew. We are looking for high school students who want to attend the conference with their church groups. You will have the chance to help the conference planning team during the week. You will work behind the scenes, learn the ropes, and get a close-up look at what is involved in running a Middle School Conference. The cost is $160. Your work crew application must be submitted by April 15, 2011. The number of work crew members will be limited.

Middle School Conference Small Group

  • Small Group Leaders: If you are 21 + and are interested in applying to be a small group leader for the Middle School Conference, call 800.572.2257, ext. 327, or download a Small Group Leader Application. You may be both a small group leader and a back home leader if there is another adult with your home group attending the conference. Your registration fee is waived, and your room, board, and travel are covered! All small group leaders must be members of congregations that are members of the World Alliance of Reformed Churches (for a listing of member churches, go to World Alliance of Reformed Churches).
  • Planning Teams: Be part of the planning for a future Montreat Middle School Conference. Apply now!
  • Cancellation Policy: See the registration packet for cancellation details.
