Key Leadership
A native of Edinburgh, Scotland, the Rev. Dr. Andrew Purves received degrees in philosophy and divinity from the University of Edinburgh, and a Th.M. from Duke Divinity School. His Ph.D. is from the University of Edinburgh. Purves came to the U. S. in 1978 and served as minister of the Hebron Presbyterian Church, Clinton, PA, until 1983, when he was called to join the faculty of Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. Purves is the professor of Reformed theology. He has a long list of publications, both books and articles, academic and popular. Recent books include The Search for Compassion: Spirituality and Ministry, Union in Christ (with Mark Achtemeier), A Passion for the Gospel (with Achtemeier), Encountering God: Christian Faith in Turbulent Times (with Charles Partee), Pastoral Theology in the Classical Tradition, Reconstructing Pastoral Theology: A Christological Foundation, The Crucifixion of Ministry, and The Resurrection of Ministry (forthcoming).
In her best-selling series of Bad Girls of the Bible books, workbooks, and videos, Liz Curtis Higgs breathes new life into ancient tales about the most infamous—and intriguing—women in scriptural history, from Jezebel to Mary Magdalene. Her best-selling historical novels, which transport the stories of Rebekah, Leah, Rachel, Dinah, Naomi, and Ruth to eighteenth-century Scotland, have also helped her readers view these familiar characters in a new light. And her nonfiction book, Embrace Grace, winner of a 2007 Retailers Choice Award, presents her message of hope in an engaging and personal way, speaking directly to the hearts of her readers. Conference Fees:
- Adults – $140 on or before June 15; $165 after June 15
- Children/Youth- $80 on or before June 15; $105 after June 15
- College Students/Graduate Students/Seminarians – $120 on or before June 15; $145 after June 15
- Family Maximum – $420 on or before June 15; $510 after June 15
Accommodations
Rates for Assembly Inn are per person and include all room and meal charges for the entire conference (Saturday supper through Tuesday lunch). Refund Policy
Refunds for conference fee are subject to the policies of Presbyterians For Renewal.
Refunds for housing in Assembly Inn will be awarded in the following ways: Full refund if notice of cancellation is received on or before May 19; Full refund less $40 if notice of cancellation is received after May 19, but before June 23; No refunds will be given after June 23; All requests for refunds must be in writing and received by Montreat Conference Center via email, fax, or U.S. mail.
