Traditionally a homecoming holiday that brings extended Montreat families together from all over the country, the Fourth of July celebration at Montreat truly captures the essence of American life and has become a popular celebration for everyone in the area. Montreat 4th of July Parade

4th of July Parade at Montreat Conference CenterJoin us on the 4th of July to celebrate with a parade and a variety of fun events for the whole family! The 2017 Grand Marshals will be the president of Montreat Conference Center, Richard DuBose and his wife Jeannie. This is a time to celebrate Montreat, freedom, peace, unity, and our community of faith. Please ensure that all parade entries maintain the spirit of this event. Parade participants will assemble on Geneva Place at Appalachian Way. Units are to be in place no later than 10:00 am. The parade starts at 10:30 am. If you would like to participate in the parade, please download the 2017 July 4th Parade Application and turn it in to the Montreat Store or email it to janeb@montreat.org. Use all of your imagination and creativity to help us celebrate Montreat’s rich heritage.

Montreat Cottagers Barbecue

4th of July Parade at Montreat Conference CenterJoin the Montreat community for the annual 4th of July Barbeque! Lunch will be catered by Red Radish To Go from Black Mountain. The lunches will include your choice of barbeque pork or chicken sandwich, slaw, beans, a dessert bar, a bag of chips, and a drink. The cost is very reasonable. Tickets for this lip-smacking whole hog enjoyment are only $10.00. Lunches will be distributed from the porch of the Walkup Building from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm following the flag-raising ceremony after the 4th of July Parade. Tickets will be sold at the following locations:

  • Montreat Store from Wednesday, June 21 to Saturday, July 1
  • Montreat Post Office from Monday, June 26 to Friday, June 30 from 9:00 am-12:00 noon
  • Red Radish To Go in Black Mountain from Wednesday, June 21 to Friday, June 30
  • Outside Anderson Auditorium on Sunday, July 2 from 11:30 am-12:30 pm

Tickets must be purchased in advance by cash, or check made payable to “Montreat Cottagers, Inc.” No tickets will be sold at the event. Come join us!

The barbecue lunch is sponsored by the Montreat Cottagers Association.

Montreat Gait 5k Race

The 5K run will start at the Montreat Gate at 7:00 am and will take runners up to West Virginia Terrace and then back to the Gate. The race will be accompanied by a shorter walk, which will also begin at the Gate at 7:00 am. There is no entrance fee, registration, or T-shirt, so we’ll just see you there!

The Montreat Gait Race is sponsored by the Town of Montreat.

Craft Center Events

The Currie Craft Center/Sally Jones Pottery will host a Pottery, Bake, and Rummage Sale on Tuesday, July 4th from 1:00-5:00 PM.  There will be handmade treats, pottery, and goods for sale. This will also be a great opportunity to come try your hand at throwing a bowl!  There will be open studio time on July 4th from 1:00-5:00 PM. There will be live music on the porch all afternoon by Key Wilde and Family.

PLEASE NOTE: The Silent Auction at the Currie Craft Center/Sally Jones Pottery will be held from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sunday, July 2nd.

Square Dance

The 4th of July square dance will be held from 7:00-9:30 pm. There will be plenty of big circle mountain dancing and novelty dances, too. All are welcome, admission is free. No experience required! The square dance will be held in the parking lot behind the Montreat College library. In the event of rain, the dance will move to the Barn.
