Personal sabbath retreats provide a respite from the busy world and allow time for spiritual reflection and rest. Your time here is unstructured, allowing you to plan your days just as you like. Leave your cell phone in the car and you are completely secluded from the outside world. In the Assembly Inn, very few rooms have televisions or telephones so you really can “get away.” This is a time for YOU to rejuvenate. Relax on our porch overlooking Lake Susan and the panoramic mountainous scenery surrounding the valley. Meet “Johnny and June” our resident swans as you sit by the lake. Or just sit back and read a good book in a comfy oversized chair near the fireplace.
If you are interested, we can recommend popular sites in Montreat and the surrounding area such as a prayer path that includes a labyrinth, the Chapel of the Prodigal containing a rare fresco by Ben Long, and various hiking trails appropriate for beginners through experienced hikers. Shop at the Moore Center for special treasures to take home. The Moore Center is home to Ten Thousand Villages (crafts from around the world), Montreat Books & Gifts, and the General Store. You may also visit nearby parks and lakes, take a scenic drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway, reserve a tee time or plan an afternoon getaway in Asheville. $250 per night + tax. All rates are subject to N.C. sales tax, as well as a community services fee of $1.00 per adult per night. Available daily – year-round. Dates subject to availability; length of stay flexible.
Perched on a hillside overlooking Robert Lake Park, the Galax House is a perfect home-away-from-home—for one night or for many. The house features three bedrooms and two and half baths, and can comfortably sleep up to 8 people in 6 beds (download a floor plan). Decorated with contemporary Appalachian style, the spacious living room, study and sunroom invite reading, writing, meditation, and relaxation. A large front porch welcomes you to sit and contemplate the mountains, or to host a gathering of loved ones. Montreat Campground Rental
$17 + tax per night per campsite (4 adults with up to 2 tents or a family with up to 2 tents; add $8.00 for each additional tent). All rates are subject to N.C. sales tax, as well as a community services fee of $1.00 per adult per night.
The Montreat Campground consists of a combination of tent, tent-trailer, and small pop-up camper sites, all nestled among the hemlocks, laurels, and rhododendrons that run alongside Graybeard Stream. Each camp site has a picnic table, fire pit, and grill. Electrical or water hookups are not available; however, water spigots are close to each campsite and two bathhouses provide campers with hot water, showers, toilets, and electrical outlets.
