Endowment Support

those who look at every cloud

–Ecclesiastes 11:4

Over the past decade, Montreat’s endowment has grown from $2 million to over $13 million. This amazing accomplishment was achieved through the faithfulness and generosity of donors giving Montreat enduring gifts and by the good planning and stewardship of Montreat’s Development Foundation Board. If you want to see Montreat thrive for years to come, you too can contribute to Montreat’s long-term financial stability and value in service of the whole Church with a gift to the Montreat Endowment.

One of three national mission centers of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), Montreat has become a critical piece of the Church’s broad ministry in a rapidly changing world. In this context,

“We must continue to provide a special place of retreat for God’s people. Your participation in the Campaign for Endowment will help us reach our goal so that the light of Montreat will shine for our children, our grandchildren, and all who come here.” Gilmour Lake, former chair of Montreat’s Endowment Committee and generous lifetime donor with wife, Nancy.

The Firefly Society

The Firefly Society is made up of Montreat legacy supporters whose financial commitment to the Montreat endowment is at least $10,000 in current or deferred/planned gifts.

Jack and Phyllis Sadler are Firefly Society members at Montreat Conference CenterIn addition to being Firefly Society members, Jack and Phyllis Sadler have a long history of giving to Montreat with their time, talents and treasure. They have been volunteers and served in leadership positions over the years, while also enjoying many seasons of life in their Montreat cottage with their extended family. Here is their perspective on financial support of Montreat:

“What better way to say ‘thank you’ to God than to provide avenues for youth and young adults to gather in this special place where they, too, may be blessed and come to share that blessing with others.”

The Mountain Retreat Association recognizes legacy support at the following levels:

  • $25,000 for a named, unrestricted endowment fund
  • $100,000 for a named, restricted endowment fund (designated for a specific purpose)

The Mary Katherine “K.K.” Scott Cooper Endowment

Montreat Conference CenterThe Mary Katherine “K.K.” Scott Cooper Endowment provides support for women’s programming, leadership development, spiritual nurture and scholarship assistance at Montreat. Funds from this endowment help women with financial need to afford Montreat conferences and retreats, help Montreat provide programs that equip women for ministry, and help Montreat feature national quality speakers and conference leaders, who are themselves women leaders in the church.
