Work Complete on Restoration of Trail to Lookout

The steps in the lower part of the photo were constructed a decade ago. Newly constructed landing and steps at the end makes them much safer.

Hikers to Lookout have witnessed the steady erosion of the trail near the stairs. The trail had developed deep gulleys, and the landing of the lower staircase floated several feet above the ground below.

Through a grant from the state, supplemented by funds from the MRA Wilderness Committee, work began to address the erosion and restore this popular trail. A contractor transported fifty pressure-treated timbers to the ridgetop at the Trestle Road crossing. This job involved several trips by truck through the Ridgecrest Assembly to the Toll Road at Buck Flats, and from there, along a very bumpy Toll Road to Lookout.

The next step was to transport 35 timbers, each weighing 100 pounds, up the trail to the construction site. The work then began in earnest, and the job was completed this month. Many thanks to all involved. (from Perrin Wright)
