Austin Seminary President to Preach at Montreat Conference Center

The Rev. Dr. Theodore J. “Ted” Wardlaw

The Rev. Dr. Theodore J. “Ted” Wardlaw, president of Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, Austin, TX, will be the guest preacher Sunday, June 22, as the summer worship series continues at Montreat Conference Center. Dr. Wardlaw, a native South Carolinian, was pastor of Central Church in Atlanta, GA, prior to joining Austin Seminary, and has also served churches in New York, Texas, and Tennessee. Dr. Wardlaw has served the larger Presbyterian Church with distinction. In 2001, he was moderator of the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta and a commissioner to the 213th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA). He is a member of the Pastors Working Group of the Louisville Institute, and he has twice been editor-at-large of the Presbyterian Outlook. He has also served on the board of directors for the Journal of Reformed Liturgy and Music. Dr. Wardlaw maintains close ties with several Presbyterian seminaries. He has served on the Union/PSCE Board of Trustees and on its alumni Board of Directors, and has been an adjunct professor of preaching at both Union/PSCE and Columbia Theological Seminary. He was also a member of the board of visitors for Johnson C. Smith Seminary. He became the ninth president of Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary in 2002.

Dr. Wardlaw’s sermon is titled “The Laughter That We Don’t Expect” and is taken from readings in the Old Testament book of Genesis and the Gospel of Matthew. He will be joined by the Chancel Choir of Brevard-Davidson River Presbyterian Church, Brevard, NC, under the direction of Charlie Steele, Director of Music Ministries and Organist.

A study of the Psalms, hosted by Montreat Presbyterian Church (PCUSA), will be offered at 9:30 AM in the Presbyterian Heritage Center, followed by worship at 11:00 AM in Montreat Conference Center’s Anderson Auditorium. Child care during worship is available in the Updike Child Care Center on Texas Road for children six months through completed kindergarten.
