Book Signing at Montreat Conference Center to Feature Leaders of Annual “Women’s Connection”

Katharine Rhodes Henderson

Dr. Katharine Rhodes Henderson and Sally Palmer Thomason, Ph.D., two noted authors taking part in Montreat Conference Center’s second annual Women’s Connection, will be featured at a book signing and informal reception Wednesday, August 6, 3:30-4:30 PM, at the Montreat Bookstore and Gift Shop.

Henderson, keynote speaker for the popular women’s conference, is author of God’s Troublemakers: How Women of Faith are Changing the World. “In twenty years of ministry,” Henderson writes about her book, “when I scanned the horizon for people doing the work of progressive faith–based leadership, women were most in evidence. There are men doing this work to be sure, but fundamentally it is women who are there at the grass-roots level making the difference. It is time for us to see and celebrate that. We have reached an important cusp. Momentum is building.”

Henderson, an ordained minister of the Presbyterian Church (USA), is Executive Vice President at Auburn Theological Seminary in New York City. She is also co-founder of Face to Face/Faith to Faith, a multi-faith youth leadership program that brings together Christian, Jewish, and Muslim teenagers from around the world to develop a new generation of leaders trained to negotiate conflict in a global community.

Sally Palmer Thomason

Thomason, author of The Living Spirit of the Crone: Turning Aging Inside Out (Theology and Sciences), is retired Dean of Special Studies at Rhodes College, Memphis, TN, and currently writes, lectures, and teaches continuing education courses on understanding aging and the body. Her research and reflection on aging, as presented in her book, disclose the scientific and medical oversights and cultural biases that inform our attitudes toward aging. Based on the personal experiences and stories of dozens of women interviewed, Thomason proposes strong, new, holistic perspectives that can overcome our cultural misconceptions and animate personal, medical, and religious work by and with the aging.

Both Henderson and Thomason have leadership roles in the 2008 Women’s Connection at Montreat Conference Center – a conference for women of all ages and perspectives. The book signing at the Montreat Bookstore and Gift Shop is open to the public and refreshments will be served. Evening worship, Monday through Wednesday, August 4-6, during the Women’s Connection, is held in Upper Anderson at 7 PM, and is also open to the public.
