Scholarship Money Available for Environmental Conference

Montreat Conference Center has announced the availability of scholarship funds for “Faith and Environment: Embracing God’s Call to be Green.” Scheduled for this summer, July 7-11, it is a new conference at Montreat. “It’s time for people of faith to engage more actively in the issues that affect God’s creation,” stated conference center president Pete Peery. “I would recommend this conference to anyone who cares deeply about protecting and preserving our planet and wants to learn more about getting involved.”
“These days, people are weighing every expense carefully,” added Merri Bass, the conference center’s Vice President for Program Development and Marketing. “The decision to attend a conference – even one as timely and important as ‘Faith and Environment’ – is bound to be influenced by the current economy. These scholarships will make the decision to come to Montreat much easier.”
Located on 4,000 acres in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina, 2,500 of which are protected wilderness, Montreat Conference Center is a picturesque setting for this national gathering of environmentalists and all who share a sense of responsibility for the wellbeing of creation. The program includes keynote lectures, worship, and a variety of workshops on topics ranging from stream ecology to photography, facility greening to global hunger.
Scholarships for the “Faith and Environment” conference are made possible through the Ella Redhead Robinson Endowment for Environmental Stewardship Fund. It is the hope of the donor that the fund will contribute to education about the imperatives of Christian responsibility for the natural environment.
Montreat Conference Center is a national conference center serving the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and visited annually by over 35,000 people for rest, renewal, and recreation. It is a co-sponsor of the “Faith and Environment” conference with Presbyterians for Restoring Creation, a nationwide network of people of faith who care for God’s creation. PRC educates, advocates, and builds community for eco-justice.
