The Rev. Dr. John Kuykendall to Preach at Montreat Conference Center
Montreat Conference Center is pleased to welcome the Rev. Dr. John Kuykendall, President Emeritus of Davidson College (Davidson, NC), and the guest preacher Sunday, July 11, in Montreat Conference Center’s Anderson Auditorium. A native of Charlotte, NC, Dr. Kuykendall was graduated from Davidson College in 1959. He received a Bachelor of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary, a Master of Sacred Theology from Yale Divinity School, and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Princeton University. Prior to accepting the presidency of Davidson College, Kuykendall also served as professor of religion and campus pastor for Auburn University. In 1982, he was awarded the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award. He was also selected as Outstanding Teacher in the School of Arts and Sciences for Auburn University.
Kuykendall’s sermon this Sunday is titled “For the Beauty of the Earth” ” and is taken from Psalm 148 and Romans 8:18-25.
Worship begins at 10:30AM in Montreat Conference Center’s Anderson Auditorium. Childcare for children six months through completed kindergarten is available at the Updike Child Care Center on Texas Road. Prior to worship, the July Sunday Bible study is at 9:00 AM in the Walkup Building across Community Center Circle from the auditorium. The conference center’s Summer Theologian-in-Residence, the Rev. Dr. Dean Thompson, retiring President of Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, (Louisville, KY), will offer the following: July 11: Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Costly Grace Embodied; July 18: Pearl S. Buck: Compassionate Angel; and July 25: Reinhold Niebuhr: Prophet of Biblical Relevance. Following worship, a lunch buffet will be served at the Assembly Inn’s Galax Dining Room, noon to 1:30PM.
