Young Adults
Young Adult Intentional Community
An Exploration of Christian Faith and Vocational Discernment

Community Purpose, Life, And Work
- Who: Six young adults interested in spending 4 months living and working in an intentional Christian community, exploring who they are called to be and what that looks like in this world where God has placed us.
- What: The pilot year of an intentional community— 6 people committed to living in community, working 20 hrs/wk in a job outside of Montreat Conference Center to help cover a portion of the community’s living expenses, as well as working part-time in ministry with Montreat Conference Center, a national conference center of the Presbyterian Church (USA) serving churches of all denominations from across the country.
- Where: A beautiful house located above the creeks of Montreat, North Carolina, in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Montreat’s year-round population of 700 swells to several thousand in summer, and is augmented by 400 college students during the academic year, with major population centers in nearby Asheville and environs. This house is only accessed by no less than 37 stair steps. Living accommodations will be twin bedrooms with shared bath.

- When: January 8, 2009 through April 30, 2009. Applications due by November 25, 2008 for the first round of selection. Download the application, type in the fields in the form, save the form with your name, and email it to Bob Tuttle at bobt[at]montreat.org. Forward the separate reference form to your references and ask them to do the same.
- Why: Montreat Conference Center’s mission and ministry is to strengthen churches, build relationship, and grow disciples in the name of Jesus Christ. We believe that the infusion of excitement and energy from an intentional community of young adults who are deliberate about their spiritual journeys, as well as their vocational journeys, will help develop stronger leaders within Montreat, as well as within the Presbyterian Church, and ultimately God’s world.
- How: From a national pool of applicants, including recent college graduates possibly on the path leading to seminary, four to six individuals will be selected as the first class of Montreat Fellows in Christian and Vocational Discernment. Working collegially with experienced mentors, they will be responsible for a long-term project that builds the ministry and service programs of Montreat Conference Center, as is appropriate to their gifts, passions and emerging sense of calling.
