Youth Conference IV

A Missing Peace

July 16 - 22, 2017

This conference is a unique gathering of young people from all over the country for a week of study, worship, and recreation. Activities include morning energizers, music, keynote, small group meetings, afternoon recreation activities, and evening worship.

Attending a Montreat Youth Conference may be the single best thing your youth take part in over the summer. Watch our video and start making plans today! Registration for 2017 is now open!

The 2017 Montreat Youth Conference will provide:

  • a safe space for youth to be heard by modeling a loving, nurturing, and supportive community as the body of Christ where all feel affirmed and included.
  • an environment where participants form and deepen relationships with leaders and their peers by engaging the issues of the world, modeling for each other a consistent life of faith, and dreaming about ways to change the church.
  • meaningful ways to connect to the living word through concrete spiritual practices during small group, recreation, keynote, and worship.

Key Leadership

Montreat Conference CenterPaul T. Roberts (Keynoter) is president of Johnson C. Smith Theological Seminary in Atlanta, GA, a position he has held since the spring of 2010. Johnson C. Smith Theological Seminary is one of ten theological schools of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), and the only one that is historically African American. Prior to his career in ministry, Paul worked for eight years in advertising in New York City. Paul enjoys tennis and yard work. He and his wife, Nina, have three beautiful children—one adult daughter and two teenage sons.

Montreat Conference CenterKatie Day (Preacher) Katie is from Jacksonville, FL, although she now calls the other coast home, serving First Presbyterian Church of Monterey, CA. She is married to Kevin, and also lives with Fred the cat and dogs Lola and Mr. Wiggins. She enjoys performing in local community theatre, reading allthebooks and watching alltheshows, and dreaming of North Carolina mountains, warm weather, and Waffle House.

Montreat Conference CenterKevin Day (Preacher) Kevin seeks to find, lose, and find anew his vocation as disciple and ordained PC(USA) pastor through his daily work as a classroom teacher. He is an occasional per diem chaplain at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, and preaches monthly at Trinity Presbyterian Church (Santa Cruz). He’s captivated by design thinking, hoping to run a bit more this year, and grateful beyond words to share all seasons of the journey with the amazing Rev. Katie Day.

Montreat Conference CenterCameron Moore (Music Leader) Cameron Moore is an independent singer/songwriter born and raised in the Charlotte, North Carolina area. He started playing the guitar at age seven and discovered a passion for music in his early teens.  When he graduated from high school, Cameron chose to attend the University of North Carolina at Asheville. Cameron released his debut self-titled EP in November of 2014. He has spent the past year traveling to lead worship at churches in the southeast U.S., participating in the New Wilmington Mission Conference, and opening for artists such as Laura Story.

Montreat Conference CenterOmayra L. González Méndez (Recreation Leader) Omayra is a news video editor, a movie lover, and super passionate about the church. From media reports, pictures, and videos, she takes every free minute to work in different organizations of the Presbyterian Church, both locally and internationally. As an elder in the Presbyterian Church in Hato Rey, she works with youth society and finance ministries. All matters of the church, processes and creation, fascinated her.

Montreat Conference CenterBetsy Apple Eldridge (Recreation Leader) Betsy lives in Raleigh, NC, where she works for the Parks and Rec Department (read: she’s a real life Leslie Knope). She loves anything related to barbecue, basketball, and being outdoors. Betsy finds great joy in playing and praying with young adults, so she is so excited to be a part of MYC 2017!

We are looking for college students who want to attend the conference with their church groups. You will have the chance to help the conference planning team during the week. You will work behind the scenes, learn the ropes, and get a close-up look at what is involved in running a Youth Conference. Look for more work crew information in your back home packet. No application is necessary; just make sure that you are registered as a part of your church group.

Back home leaders will receive this packet 60 days before their conference begins. Download more information and apply online now!
